This very handsome boy is Maxwell. Maxwell has lived with kids and other dogs. He lived with 2 other dogs (an 8 yr old male Saluki mix and a 5 yr old female Rottweiler). Maxwell immediately hit it off with the female but it took a little bit longer for him and the male to figure out how to play. He enjoys playing with the dogs in the yard but doesn't particularly like to hang out by himself. Maxwell loves his people and LOVES to be loved on and takes Rottie leaning to a whole new level, leaning until he's lying on your feet. He sometimes thinks he should be a lap dog and also loves getting belly rubs. He crates beautifully!

Maxwell also had 3 children (ages 13, 8 & 7) that would come over every weekend and he followed them around (like a puppy), loved on them and gave lots of kisses. He is currently living with a 5 year old boy, who is his best friend. They love to play together and wherever you find the child, Maxwell is not far behind.

Maxwell has also lived around cats and did great with them. He had no prey drive and was just curious but would lose interest quickly. Having said that, we always like to remind potential adopters that even though a dog has lived with cats amiably, you still need to use caution and introduce them very slowly as new environments/different cats can cause different reactions.

Maxwell knows “sit”, “off” and “down” but it may take a little time, since he will need to trust you first. He is crate trained and walks very well on the leash. He LOVES to go for walks.

Maxwell went to be evaluated for what we thought was a torn ACL repair. After seeing one of the best specialists in the Hampton Roads, VA area, it was been determined that Maxwell’s injury is too old and there is too much wear down for any type of surgery to be successful. If we were to put him through the surgery, it would pretty much be for nothing and we will not do that to him. Maxwell has been put on anti-inflammatories as well as pain relievers to be taken as needed, but are rarely needed. He doesn’t let his injury stop him though. He still loves to go for walks, go for car rides and loves to play with other dogs. He will let you know when he needs to slow down. He will never be an agility dog or a running partner but if you are looking for a very sweet and loving boy then Maxwell is the one for you.
